Hey Everyone..It is Saturday evening and it was a day spent remembering and missing the Real John Doherty. And as sad as my heart was for the reason we were together, I cannot help but beam with pride, as I see and feel what we are to each other. We are blessed that we are a family of friends. We are just so connected. It is a comforting feeling to know that we have so many people behind us, no matter what tomorrow will bring. I can see John smiling down on us,with those beautiful blue eyes.( How I miss them). When I looked around the chapel at all the family and friends and as we gathered at John's grave together, I cannot help but be thankful to John for bringing us together, and giving us the gift of each other. It is priceless and I treaure it in my heart, with my memories of John. I miss him terribly and I love you all everyday. With Peace and Love and Hugs...Rosemary

Yesterday was your birthday and I just could not believe that it was the second one without you here. Sometimes it just not seem real. But it is, and we still miss you terribly. Thanksgiving was a peaceful and good day. We were all together, and you were in our hearts and thoughts even though you were not at the table. All is well here, we are strong and are taking care of each other, just like you would want us too. I was just watching The Polar Express was thinking of you so I checked in to your website to visit. Well it is December 1st and we are starting to get ready for another Christmas season, they are just not the same anymore. I know you are our Angel so keep on sending us your signs and your strength and we will keep on doing what we do....I miss you everyday...Love Rosemary

Yo Bro!
A year ago today was a real tough day (and time) for all of us. Of course the year has flown by and we continue to move forth on our life paths...with you always in our hearts.
I really believe that you would be the first to counsel us to get on with our lives and rather than moping and feeling bad, to get on with the journey.
I also believe that we will meet up again soon enough so please make sure we got an official Pete Rozelle, a new Clincher or 3, some Motown, good seats at the game, up to date Fish n' Hunt equipment and accessories, La Cosa Buesna, Rold Gold, M&M Peanuts, Haagen Dazs, 151 and anything else we'll need to continue the journey...or not...cause really "all you need is love".
I know I don't have to tell you that everybody is doing well and you'd be so proud of your family, and yeah we really do miss you...I know you know!
Keeping working those invites for us!
Amazingly you continue to give - love you Bro.

I too could not help reflecting on that very special night. The love and friendship that we shared that night with so many people, help me to get thru the difficult days. I believe that we all became stronger from the energy of that night and it is the kind of strength that will never leave us. Who knew back then how strong we would need to be. The memory of the Hearty Party keeps John's spirit alive in so many people's hearts.Anyone who was there or played any part in it's success will always be connected in a very special way because "The Beat Definitley Does Go On...."

A YEAR AGO TODAY I WAS REFLECTING ON A NIGHT THAT I WILL NEVER FORGET. "THE HEARTY PARTY". THE FEELING THAT WAS RUNNING THROUGH THE SPORTS PLACE WAS SPECIAL. RARELY, IF AT ALL, DO WE GET TO EXPERIENCE LIFE AT ITS FULLEST. ON APRIL 30TH, 2005 I WAS FORTUNATE TO GET A FULL BLAST.
MANY THANKS AGAIN TO ALL WHO ATTENDED. AFTER SPEAKING WITH CARMEN AND THE KIDS ABOUT THE EVENING, JOHN SAID THAT HE WOULD HAVE RETURNED EVERY DOLLAR IF HE COULD HAVE BEEN THERE TO SEE EVERYONE. WITHOUT THE ATTENDANCE, THE EMOTION WOULD HAVE BEEN ABSENT. I KNOW IT IS WHAT I NEEDED THEN, AND STILL DRAW FROM TODAY. THANKS TO ALL WHO COULD NOT ATTEND.YOUR PARTICIPATION WAS INCREDIBLE.
AND FINALLY TO THE COMMITTEE, WHO I HOLD AN IRREPLACEABLE BOND WITH. I LOVE ALL OF YOU.
TO MY BROTHER AND FRIEND, I KNOW YOU ARE CLOSE, BUT I MISS YOU EVERY DAY.

On this beautiful St. Patrick's Day I cannot help but think of John and his beautiful Smiling Irish Blue Eyes.Last year at this time we were working hard, getting ready for the Hearty Party. What a Year..So many Highs and Lows. The memories of the Hearty Party will stay with us all forever. Friendship, love, dedication, and the feeling of such accomplishment is not something that we get often in our lives. The success of that night was a gift to us and to John, Carmen and the kids. Not everyone gets the chance to see how much they are loved, but I know John knew. Well anyway,I just needed a dose of John's spirit and this website gives it to me as I read the messages from everyone and especially the one from John.I can hear his voice as I read his words. We miss you everyday and I hope you are smiling down on us all.

Juan mi amigo. It’s almost 1 AM I just came down to the kitchen for a late snack. Started to think about you. Football season just wasn’t the same this year without you. Super Bowl at Carlos just wasn’t as much fun as years before. Spring is in the air. When is Cosa Buena’s first practice? The NFL draft is next month. Maybe we can sneak in again and sit at the Jets table like the year they passed on Marino. 21 years ago last month the 4 of us went on vacation to San Juan for a week. Wouldn’t it be great to do that again? One day? Just thinking about you buddy. So true, the good they die young.

To John's Family,
I had the pleasure of meeting John many years ago at VZ. In my 25 yrs at this company, I have never met a better person. I consider myself lucky to have known him.
Please accept my belated condolonces, I only learned of his passing today. It seems to me the people I meet that are generous and selfless by nature, like John, are taken away much too soon. It is my hope the pain you are all going through at this time will soon be replaced by the happines to be found in the wonderful memories you will always have of the time you had together.
Sincerely,
John

Who else but John could get this beautiful weather and the Rockefeller Center Tree lit up on their Birthday Night, and in November no less. It is the perfect gift to him from the City that he loved so dearly. No candles this year, but I think 78,000 twinkling lights will do fine. (We know you have a great view.) So it is with the heaviest of hearts that we wish you a Happy Birthday. So we will try to Celebrate your life and all that you gave us as this holiday season, that we all have loved and shared together begins.

We little knew that morning,
God was going to call your name;
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
You did not go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide:
And though we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same:
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
We all miss you everyday...

Thank you for showing the true meaning of strength, courage and most importantly love. You have inspired me to value family, friends and every new day, when so often they are taken for granted. John, the world is a sadder place without you but it will be a better world if everyone would follow your example of kindness, patience and your abilty to never speak an unkind word about anyone! To all: Thank you all soooo much for all your love and support through this time. I still come back to the website a lot and read the comments on the guestbook and they make me smile. Although this time has been extreamly sad and hard to believe, im starting to try to make light of this situation by remembering that he's in a much better place now and by celebrating his life. Many people have come to me and told me many stories about my dad that i never knew before and when they are done they usually always leave me smiling or laughing. It's great to know there are so many people out there who care so much.
much love to all,
-Johnny

Since the time i became best friends with Michelle during our 5th grade class 10 years ago I have been amazed by the kindness, warmth, happiness, and smiles of the Doherty family. I will never forget how excited I would be to eat Carmen's fried bananas - or dance with michelle in the ba#@*%!t. I will always remember ringing the doorbell for a "playdate" - and as we grew older to "hang out" and being greeted by a big smile from Mr. Doherty. He would always put others before himself. I don't know why bad things happen to good people, but the Doherty family by far is the nicest people I have ever met. I love you all - Carmen, Michelle, Johnny, Mikey, and Neil. Michelle, you are an angel, always have been and always will be. I know we will be friends forever and I am ALWAYS here for you.
"God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way."
"If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it."
I LOVE YOU ALL!! STAY STRONG!!
RIP Mr. John Doherty

These words are hard to write...the loss of someone so young and good is hard swallow without asking the question: WHY?
Our love and condolances go out to John's immediate family and his extended family, for which there are many.
Rosemary has been keeping us in-the-know with all of John's triumps and set backs. We were heart broken to get that call.
My memories of The Terrace Crowd (1969-75ish):
There was a time when we all hung out together through rain, sleet, and snow. I took many pictures back then. I pulled out the picture binder to have a walk down memory lane. We were wonderfully blessed in those days. Though we took all that for granted and thought we'd all live forever.
Those were the days my friends we thought they'd never end,
we'd sing and dance forever and a day, we lived the life we choose,
we'd fight (no, we really did not fight) and never lose,
Those were the days,
OH YES THOSE WERE THE DAYS.
We are now living the days that will, in time, become "those days", but never will it be the same.
Good friends, good times God Bless.
With Sympathy,
Ken & Liz Skelly

Just a few words here to know that you are thought of including your beautiful family.

I heard that people were coming out of the wood work! You and your family must feel good knowing how many people are sending you their support and love.

Hi John, Hi Carmen, Not quite sure when to call, so sent this e-mail. Hope you are well. Heard from your sis last week about a side effect or two and your preparations for the next wave of medical treatments. Godspeed! If wishes and prayers and love alone could heal you, you would be Superman by now. I continue to pray for you and your family. Carmencita, I hope you are not running yourself into the ground. I hope Michele's summer job is giving her a good experience towards her careeer aspirations. Congratulations to John on high school graduation. Warmest regards to Mike and Neil and keep up the good work. Besos and brazos a todos. Terry.

johnnie, (the kid with the six fingered glove)haven't seen or spoke to you in 30 years but heard thru grapevine you got new ticker. Every few years me & brother Terry look at movies of you, me, johnny colon & herbie cohen, the siedlers (including rex & butsie), "emerson marero" and the rest of the "little nazies" playing on the street. What a great street we lived on & 620 was a great building....remember the cookoo lady??
Also have great memories of your father taking us to Yankee games & especially the bat day he took us to (double header). How's your mother, rosemary, phillip & patrick doing?? what ever happpened to your cousin tommy???
You are right about it being a wonderful life. remember what george baily sez...."no man is a failure that has friends" and apparently you have plenty. Hope all goes well for you in next few months -- hang in there. i'm still a JETS fan but I'm in therapy once a week during the season. My sister theresa sez hello & so does brother terry & willie. Johnnie got to go "Gil the ice cream man" just came down the street.
